While chase cars are most commonly associated with capturing dynamic shots involving vehicles, they can also be used for various other filmmaking scenarios. Here are some additional use cases for chase cars.
RUNNING SCENES
When characters are running or moving at a fast pace, a chase car can keep up with them, allowing for smooth tracking shots. This is particularly useful in scenes where traditional steadicam may struggle to maintain the required speed and stability.
DOLLY SHOTS
Did you know we can also move real smooth and slow? We've perfected 'dolly' movements to be able to perform in as many ways as possible on set. Just in case our chase car is too fast and to big we're happy to bring out our rickshaw! Switching the setup between car and rickshaw is a matter of minutes and you will again find new ways of moving the camera dynamically.
AERIAL SHOTS
While not technically a “chase car” on the ground, some filmmaking scenarios involve coordinating aerial shots using helicopters or drones alongside ground-based chase cars. We can provide different camera packages, ranging from mirrorless to cinema camera, prepare an in-house camera package or host your very custom camera package.
RIG / SUSPENSION
Our proven gold standard is the Flowcine Blackarm mounted onto a speedrail rig. Suitable and secure mounting point on the chase car provide the most stable base for the camera arm to ensure optimal responsiveness of the Flowcine Blackarm to movements, and ensure that the camera remains stable and well-balanced.
STABILIZER
The collaboration between the DJI Ronin 2 and Flowcine Blackarm results in a more comprehensive stabilization system. The gimbal addresses high-frequency vibrations and small movements, while the Blackarm addresses low-frequency vibrations and larger shocks, providing an overall smoother and more stable shooting platform.
